Notes: This initial S begins the prayer for the Easter Vigil in a breviary used in private devotion. The calendar contains obits for members of the French royal family, including Pierre, count of Alençon and son of St. Louis IX, king of France. The artist is a follower of the Parisian illuminator Jean Pucelle, who made several manuscripts for members of the French royal family.
