"In 1925, after making public charges that millions of tax dollars were being lost through the favorable treatment of large corporations by the Bureau, Senator James Couzens[, of Michigan,] was notified by the Bureau that he owed more than $10 million in back taxes.  Then Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon was believed to be personally responsible for the retaliation against Senator Couzens."

"Mellon's audit of Progressive Senator Couzens, of Michigan, was a political error.  The Board of Tax Appeals not only sided with Couzens; it said that the government ozed him $900,000 for overpayment."
