Notes: Top: Mustang 1 October 6-7, 1962 - The mustang 1, an experimental sports car developed by Ford Motor Company engineers and designers, was first shown to the public at the U.S. Grand Prix, Watkins Glen, N.Y. The information acquired in the Mustang 1 study was the starting point for development of the original Ford Mark 1 (GT-40) concept. Bottom: Original Ford Mark 1 (GT-40) Prototype, April 1, 1964 - The first Ford prototype designed for world endurance racing was completed 11 months after Ford engineers and designers put pencil to paper in Dearborn, Michigan. Like the Mustang 1, it employed a midship engine configuration.
