Notes: Bill Lawton (above) and tom Grove help keep the Mustang's performance image second to none as they compete in their lightweight, altered-wheelbase Mustangs on the nation's drag strips. Lawton won the B/XS class title in the National Hot Rod Association Winternationals at Pomona, Calif., earlier this year (1965) and is a past winner in the NHRA Nationals. Grove's most important victory in his Mustang came in the 1966 NHRA Springnationals when he captured class and Competition Eliminator honors. Both cars are powered by fuel-injected 427-cubic-inch single overhead cam engines.
