Notes: Fairchild Experimental Safety Vehicle. The superstructure of Fairchild's ESV displays the application of aerospace technology to auto body design. Roll bars are integrated into the basic body for rollover protection at speeds of up to 70 mph. Cross braces and bulkheads, as used in aircraft construction withstand side crashes at speeds up to 40 mph. Also, deep side sills filled with energy absorbing material protect the passenger compartment from penetration in a pole impact. The front mounted yoke supports the radiator and at the same time prevents windshield collapse in a rollover. Front and rear bumpers are covered with plastic materials.
