"The next Legislature has its work cut out for it. Yet the question of most vital interest to Philadelphia is not, as yet, a part of its program. It affects the pocketbook of every homeowner and housekeeper in Philadelphia.... It is the vital question of coal--of profiteering by wholesalers and retailers in anthracite, the universal home fuel of Philadelphia. New York has beaten Philadelphia to it. The district attorney of Brooklyn has started an invesitgation that is still on. The Senate committee at Washington has also taken up the issue. It threatens the coal dealers with government supervision and criminal prosecutions."
