General Motors’ experimental Firebird II, a gas turbine passenger car specifically designed for highway use, is a product of the General Motors Technical Center. Its engine and chassis were designed by GM Research, with cooperative help of several GM divisions; its titanium body by GM Styling. It is shown here on the GM Desert Proving Ground near Mesa, Ariz., where it made engineering test runs. With it is Harley J. Earl, GM Vice President in charge of Styling.
