Gaylord Cars Ltd., Chicago, Ill.
Front Suspension Springs and Mountings. Every Gaylord car has individually tailored high quality steel coil springs (Object “C”) fully insulated and rubber mounted for the front independent suspension.
Object “A” is the lower spring retainer, which accomplished three functions:
To locate the spring properly in the lower “A” frame. (Arrows point to rubber parts.)
To insulate (via the rubber core) road sounds and vibrations being transmitted to the coil spring.
To make contact with Object “B” upon full bump. This is a unique arrangement, and reduces noise and vibration which is ordinarily amplified through the spring and then to the chassis.
Object “B” is the front coil spring top retainer, which carries out the following functions:
To locate properly the coil spring at its upper end.
To further diminish road noise and vibration
To limit the travel of the front wheels to their specified amounts (via the rubber cone which makes contact only on full bump).
