The Haynes volatilizer consists of a jacket that is cast about the intake manifold above the carburetor, which is heated by circulating through it hot exhaust gases “A”, from the exhaust manifold, with which it is connected. The exhaust gases enter the volatilizer from the center of the exhaust manifold, circulate through the jacket and out through the exhaust tube, as indicated by the arrows. The incoming mixture, as it leaves the carburetor, has in suspension droplets of liquid fuel as shown at “B”, which are instantly vaporized when they enter the volatilizer, and leaves as a highly combustible gas as shown at “C”. The amount of heat to the volatilizer is automatically controlled by a valve that is connected to the throttle arm, so that at very low speeds, all of the exhaust passes through the volatilizer. As the speed of the engine is increased, less heat is supplied.
