Holi is a spring festival celebrated in Hinduism, tied to the Equinox, and participants spray each other with vibrant pigments. In this miniature, the god Krishna and the gopis, or milkmaids, are squirting saffron and tilaka, symbolizing the sand of the Jumna river stained with the blood of the demons Krishna slew.
