Notes:

The Northeast Regional Library is the first of three major regional libraries intended to provide “central library” service to the principal areas of the city. It is second only to the Parkway Central Library in size, available resources, and number of staff, thereby offering more in-house services than the local neighborhood branches.

This ca. 1965 photograph shows celebrated Philadelphia author/illustrator Marguerite De Angeli, at the Northeast Regional Library, attending a birthday party in her honor (her 75th, perhaps).  According to her 1987 obituary in the Philadelphia Inquirer, “Mrs. de Angeli's honors were many, but few meant more to her than her birthday parties at the Free Library.”  Her papers comprise a treasured possession of the Children's Literature Research Collection at the Parkway Central Library.

Located near the intersection of Cottman and Bustleton Avenues, the Northeast Regional Library serves the greater northeast area as a regional library, and the entire city for research.
