Notes:
Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered. The central text in Fraktur is within a rectangular frame, which is decorated by undulating flowering vines, rosettes, tulips and spirals. The text begins with a large and ornately decorated letter “I,” which is flanked by a potted vine with four tulips.
This fraktur was formerly attributed to Jacob Strickler of Virginia. Based on design and handwriting differences, this attribution is uncertain. FLP 93 and 94 were made by the same artist for members of the Banawitz family. Although no locations are given on the documents, family history research located a Jacob Bonewit who married a Margaret Herbein in 1782 in Shenandoah County, VA, possibly the same Jacob and Margaret Banawitz listed as the parents on the certificates.
