Media Type: Copperplate Engravings
Source: Rare Book Department
Notes:

Engraved; etched. The text is flanked by two large columns, with two angels holding a garland that forms the upper border of the central text frame. Next to the columns are two urns with fires and copious plumes of smoke. Below the text is Jesus on a hill preaching to his eleven disciples. Above the text is a depiction of Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptist in the river Jordan. Behind and above them are depictions of land and the sky with clouds. The Dove of the Holy Spirit from which rays of light extend toward heaven is above Jesus. Two seals are beneath the text. One is the seal of the United States, surrounded by various agricultural tools, including a plow, scythe, pitchfork, pickax, shovel, hoe, and harrow. The other is a seal with the letters L. S., meaning Locus Sigillorum, or location of the seals, surrounded by an assortment of boxes, barrels, cloths, and sheaves of wheat and fruit.
