Diesen beyden Ehegatten, als: Georg \ Spengler und seiner Ehelichen Hausfrau \ Catharina eine geborne Dinges ist ein Söhn \ lein zur Welt geboren; im Jahr unsers Herrn Jesu 1806 \ den 23^ten Tag Jenner um 4 Uhr Nachmittags, im Zeichen des \ Fisches und den 27^ten Tag January zur heiligen \ Taufe gebracht, wobey ihm der Name Jacob Spengler gegeben \ ward. Taufzeugen waren Peter Spengler und seine Frau Maria. \ Dieser Jacob ist als ein Glied in die Gemeinschaft der Heiligen, durch \ das Bad der Wiedergeburt und Erneuerung des heiligen Geistes, wie \ St. Paulus lehret, Titum im 3, v. 5. 6. 7. auf und \ angenommen worden.

Translation:

To these two married people, namely: Georg Spengler and his lawful wife Catharina, a born Dinges, a little son was born into the world, in the year of our Lord 1806, the 23^rd day January at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, in the sign of Pisces, and on the 27^th day January brought to the Holy Baptism, where the name Jacob was given to him. Sponsors were Peter Spengler and his wife Maria. Said Jacob was admitted and accepted into the community of the holy through the bath of rebirth and renewal of the Holy Spirit, as St. Paul teaches, Titus 3:5, 6, 7.

Notes:

Hand-colored, hand-lettered; printed form. The central text in Fraktur, with blanks infilled by hand, is within a large oval frame in the center of the document. Two trumpeting angels are in the upper corners. Both hold a small framed verse in their outstretched hand. In the lower corners are the two verses within hearts, from which clusters of leafy flowers protrude. Between them are two birds. The entire document is within a scalloped border.
Klaus Stopp speculated that this certificate may have been printed in Reamstown, Lancaster County; possibly by the Montelius family, based on similarity of typeface and woodcuts. Of the eight copies of this certificate known, only one mentions a location, that of Lebanon, about 17 miles from Reamstown.
