Ihr Sünder kommt \ gegangen. seht euren Jesum an, wie Schmertz \ =lich Er thut hangen, am harten Creutzes=Stamm. \ Er schröcklich zugericht, sein Göttlich Angesicht. mit Blut gantz übermahlet \ gleicht er keinem Menschen nicht. Vom Haupt biß zu den Füssen, ist Jesus \ gantz verfetzt, am gantzen leib zurissen, kein Glied bleibt ihm [un]verletzt, \ Betrachts o Menschen=kind, daß machen unsere Sünd. Ja ja die Sünd alleine, \ Jesum ans Creutze bindt. Ach Jesu laß dein Leyden! dein Bittern Todes \ Pein, einmahl wohl wann ich soll scheiden! mir nicht verlohren seyn, Ach Laß \ mich doch erwerben, ein winzig Tröpflein Blut, ein mahl wann ich sterben \ Laß kommen mir zu gut. \ d. 16ten October Anno Domini 1771.

Translation:

You sinner, come forth. Look at your Jesus, how painfully he is hanging on the cross. He is terribly battered, his godly countenance, totally painted in blood, like no other person. From the head to the feet, Jesus is totally lacerated, torn over his entire body, no limb remains [un]injured. Observe, child of man, our sins are doing this. Yes, yes, the sins alone tie Jesus to the cross. O Jesus, let your suffering, your bitter pain of death, not be lost to me when I once shall depart. O let me acquire a tiny little drop of blood that, when I die, shall be of benefit to me.

Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered. The text in Fraktur and German script within a rectangular frame is in the center of the document. The first letter is displayed in prominent and elaborate calligraphy. The text is surrounded by a border that is decorated with flowers and diamond-shaped motifs. The text is found in both the Lancaster and Franconia Conference Mennonite hymnals.
