Jack Pratt, Lubin director, threatens to make the regular playwright fellers look to their laurels. His next Lubin picture, “A Man’s Making,” is from his own pen and this time the show magnates will produce after the film version has been made instead of before. “A Man’s Making” opens on the speaking stage early in January at a Broadway, New York, show-stop — and will be released through the V. L. S. E. offices probably early in December. 

Mark Swan, playwright, author of "Her Own Money” and other New York successes, has joined the staff of the Lubin photo-playwrights. In the future he will write exclusively for Lubin.

Mary Moore, charming sister of Owen, Tom and Matt of the famous Moore family of photo-players, has joined the Lubin Company and is playing in "The Great Divide” under Director Edgar Lewis.

House Peters arrived in Philadelphia from Frisco on Saturday — played one scene in the studio — grabbed a train for Arizona to do the outdoor scene in “The Great Divide” — three weeks there and then back to Philadelphia again. And so runs the uneventful life of the photo-play idols.

Despite conclusions, Billie Reeves is perhaps the most abstemious man in the world, excepting William Jennings B. Grape Juice, Soda — almost anything — but never water, not even for a chaser.

Anthony P. Kelly, scenario writer de luxe of Lubin features, adapter of "The Great Divide” and "The Man's Making,” aspired to own an automobile. Kelly bought a pretentious one — he drove it — once — now it's less pretentious — Kelly walks like other folks once more — he's pricing flivvers and bargaining with jitneys now.

Because of the phenomenal success of " The Ring Tailed Rhinoceros,” Raymond Hitchcock has been signed to play another feature comedy for Lubin. George V. Hobart is the author.

In the coming Lubin V. L. S. E. feature "The Rights of Man,” Rosetta Brice, the dainty leading lady, made an aeroplane flight with George Gray, the Wright aviator, to a height of nearly 8,000 feet. Nearly a record for a woman. She'll go again too she says.

Earl Metcalfe, popular Lubin idol, has leaped to the rank of director with the inimitable Billie Reeves as his star. Earl does not forsake appearing before the camera, however, for the public demand is too great for him to stay away entirely.

 

Vinnie Burns has been recalled from the western Lubin Company and is to be featured in productions made at the eastern plant at Philadelphia. Her first appearance is in a sequel picture to "The Desert Honeymoon” in which she has made overnight fame.

"The Peril," the great big smashing play of war which has been in the making all summer at Newport, Rhode Island, under Director George Terwilliger, and in which the entire Atlantic Squadron of battleships, cruisers, torpedo boats, destroyers, submarines and aeroplanes has been used, is completed, and is schedules for early V. L. S. E. release. Earl Metcalfe and Ormi Hawley play the leads.

Director Edgar Lewis, with his company, has left Philadelphia for the Grand Canyon of Arizona, film "The Great Divide.” In his company are House Peters, Ethel Clayton, Mary Moore, Warner Richmond, Hayden Stevenson. Marie Sterling, four camera men, two carpenters, a scenario man, and scenic artist. The company travelled by special train direct from Philadelphia.

Richard Buhler, favorite stock actor, well remembered for his appearances in "Ben Hur” and "Quo Vadis,” has joined the Lubin Stock Company, making his appearance as star in the V. L. S. E. release, "The Rights of Man.”

Director Jack Pratt, Richard Buhler, Rosetta Brice and their supporting company of ten players are en route to Block Island aboard Mr. Buhler's racing schooner “Ben Hur,” to begin production of Mr. Pratt’s own story, “A Man’s Making,” a five-reel V. L. S. E. feature, scheduled for early release. Several scenes of the play are to be taken aboard the "Ben Hur," while at sea in the present trip.

Sigmund Lubin, president of the Lubin Company, has returned from his trip to the California coast, well rested and proud of the reputation Lubin pictures are building for themselves in the far west.

Mimi Yvonne, the child actress, who is rapidly growing up into the ingenue class, has been put in the Lubin Stock Company. Little Mimi will be best remembered for her sterling performances in the stage version of "The Littlest Rebel” as well as the film version.

Rene Plaisetty, former proprietor of the Filma Company of Paris, director of such successes as "The Carrier Pigeon,” '''The Rope of Salvation” and producer of " Her Great Match,” with Gail Kane will direct the new Raymond Hitchcock feature, "The Wonderful Wager," for Lubin.
