Mein gemüth erfreuet sich Jesu \ wann ich denck an dich, Mein betrübter Sinn und muth, Jesulein \ mein Himmels=guth. 2.) Wann ich meinen Jesum seh, Und in grossen Sorgen steh, So erwallet mein gemüth, \ Jesulein, von deiner güt. 3.) Alle music in der Welt, was der mensch vor lieblich hält, Lauten, Harffen, Zinken=Klang, \ mit der Geige spielet danck. 4.) Posaun= Und Trompetenhall, Und der Dulcimerneschall, Mit der Flöten sanfften \ Thon, lobet Jesum, Gottes Sohn. 5.) Ihr regalen blaset auf, spielet süsse Lieder drauf, setzt den Zinken an \ den Mund, lobet Jesum alle stund. 6.) Rühren nicht die Vögelein Morgens ihre Züngelein? So geschwind der \ Tag anbricht lassen sie das dancken nicht. 7.) An des Tages Zwölften Stund aus des Wassers tiefen grund \ spielen alle Fischelein, und dem Schöpffer danckbar seyn. 8.) Alles wild auf grüner Heyd; wann es geht nach \ seiner Weyd, so vertraut es seinem Gott, der versorgt es in der noth. 9.) Mensch, O Mensch, Du Ebenbild, wie erzeigst Du dich so wild? Sorgest nur dein lebenlang für die Kleider, Speiß und trank. 10.) Denke doch \ an jenen Tag, da Man ewig leben mag mit den Kleidern angethan, die niemand zerreissen kan. \ 11.) Diese Kleider, solche zier, Christus ist das hülfs=panier da er uns auß lieb erwarb, Da er an dem Kreutze starb. Ende. \ Ich, David, Herr bin gebohren den [ill.] Juny 1771

Translation:

My spirit rejoices in Jesus when I think of you, my sad mind and courage, little Jesus, my good of heaven.
2.) When I see my Jesus, and am in great sorrows, my spirit surges, little Jesus, from your goodness.
3.) Al the music of the world, which mankind considers lovely, lutes, harps, cornet’s clang, with the violin play in gratitude.
4.) With the echo of trombones and trumpets, and the dulcimer’s sound, with the soft sound of flutes, praise Jesus, God’s son.
5.) You regal organs strike up, play sweet songs on them, put the cornet to your mouth, praise Jesus at all hours.
6.) Don’t the little birds stir their tongues in the morning? As soon as the day breaks, they do not fail to give thanks.
7.) In the day’s twelve hours, from the deep bottom of the water, all the little fish play and are thankful to the Creator.
8.) All the game on the green meadow, when it goes to its pasture, it trusts its God who will take care of it in need.
9.) Man, o man, you image of God, why do you show yourself so wild? Your entire life you only worry about clothing, food and drink.
10.) Only think of the day when man shall live eternally, dressed in garments that no one can tear.
11.) These garments, such adornment, Christ is the helping pannier for he acquired us out of love, because he died on the cross. I, David Herr, was born the [ill.] June, 1771.

Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered. The text, with the first two and last lines in Fraktur and the remainder in German script, extends across the entire document. It is framed by a decorative border. The text is from a Mennonite hymn in the Kleine Geistliche Harfe.
