So streit denn wohl, streit keck and kühn, das du mögste über winden, streng an die krafte Muth und Sinn, das diß guth mögst finden we nicht will streiten um \ die kron, bleibt Ewiglich im Spott und Hohn.
 

Translation:

How does one love in springtime the many pretty little flowers. In the heath, in the gardens, meadows, come forth many kinds of decorative flowers. What does this festivity teach us? Answer: Everything grows green in honor of God. How beautiful is it then for the youth when it also grows green in discipline and virtue, in faith and mercy, in humility, gentleness and chastity and what other virtues can serve to honor God.
For this beautiful May of the fresh years of youth is over so quickly, ran to eternity. Collect now little flowers of holiness and virtue so that we may be there forever the flower of your youth. A little flower wilts soon, so youth becomes old. The grass will be cut off, on what will you then build?

Be of good cheer, you pious, show your lamps. Evening has arrived, the dark night breaks forth. The bridegroom has started out in splendor. Up, pray, fight and soon it will be midnight. Prepare your lamps, fill them with oil. Prepare now body and soul for salvation. Zion’s guards are crying: the bridegroom is near. Go forth into the kingdom, all of your wise virgins, only lift up your heads with rejoicing and sons toward the choir of angels. The door is unlocked, the wedding is prepared. Up, up, you travel companions, the bridegroom is not far away.

Like an eagle often spreads his wings over his little young one that are still immature, so spread over me your wings graciously, best Jesus, son of God, from the high throne of Heaven.

Who crowns you with grace and mercy and you become young again like an eagle.

Anno 1817, the 4th of April.
Like an eagle that leads its young and glides above them. The 5th book of Moses. And as I have carried you like on the wings of an eagle and you to me, God have mercy because, oh, my soul trusts you and under the shadow of your wings I found refuge. Spread your goodness over those who know you and your righteousness over the devout. Shield me under the shadow of your wings.

So fight well, fight solidly and daringly, so that you shall overcome, strain your strength, courage and reason, that you might find this good. Whoever does not want to fight for the crown remains forever in mockery and derision.

Notes:

Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered. The text in Fraktur and German script extends across the entire document. The first three lines are in particularly prominent print that is decorated with angels, vines and flowers with faces. The remaining text is written in various sizes and portions in between and around numerous drawings of flowers, birds, angels and skulls that fill the lower portion of the document. In the upper corners are two birds that are feeding their young from self-inflicted wounds in their chests. Along the lower sides are tulips with birds. Along the lower border is a row of tulips flanked by two trees. In the lower center are two interwined birds that are topped by small angels, a fan-like ornament, and an arch made of tulips and faces.  The designs show the influence of fraktur artist  Andreas Kolb (1749-1811), a Mennonite schoolmaster.
