Notes:

Hand-drawn; hand-colored. In the center of the document is the image of a religious male figure, possibly a saint, within an oval frame that is surrounded by leafy stems of tulips. The man is wearing a red robe and holding a heart-key in one hand and an open book in the other.  Below the frame is a bulbous urn that is decorated with stripes, leaves, and flowers. Above the frame are two smaller and one large flower. The entire document is framed by a decorative border. Weiser notes in his catalog that, while the subject matter of a saint is Roman Catholic and therefore suggests European provenance, similar pieces were also produced in Pennsylvania and are possibly related to a Catholic congregation at Goschenhoppen, Montgomery County.

Small drawings, often lacking inscriptions and referred to as bookmarks by collectors, were given by schoolmasters to their students as rewards for good behavior and scholastic accomplishments.
