Da alles Volk sich taufen ließ, \ Vom Täufer der Johannes hieß, \ Da kam auch Jesus Christus dar, \ Daß er von ihm getaufet ward.
Der bätete nach seinem Brauch, \ Daß sich wohl thät der Himmel auf; \ Mit Gottes Geist wurd er begabt, \ Der fuhr als eine Taub’ herab.
Johannes sah den heil’gen Geist, \ Kommen auf den der Jesus heißt, \ In leiblicher Gestalt, und blieb \ Auf ihm, der uns als Kinder liebt.
Und eine Stimm vom Himmelsthron, \ Sprach: Dieses ist mein lieber Sohn, \ An dem ich Wohgefallen hab’ \ Dies Zeugniß selbst Johannes gab.

18. And Jesus came, spoke with them, and told them, all power is given unto me in heaven and on earth. 19. Therefore go forth, and teach all nations, and baptize them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

To these two married people, namely Samuel Knecht and his lawful wife Elisabeth, a born Gruver, a daughter was born into the world on the 27th day of October in the year of Christ 1861. This daughter was born in Lower Nazareth Township, Northampton County, in the state of Pennsylvania in North America, and was baptized in the 6th day of March A. D. 1862 by the Honorable Mister Häusler, and received the name Sarah Sabina.
The sponsors were the parents of the child themselves.

Scarcely born into the world, it is only a short measured pace from the first step to the cool grave in the earth. O with every moment! Our strength diminishes, and with every year we grow more ripe for the bier.

O! who knows in what hour the final voice will awaken us, because God has not revealed this to anybody yet. Who tends to his house will depart from the world with joy. Because surety, in contrast, can provoke eternal death.

I am baptized and recorded; the book of life encloses me. My father will always love me and have mercy for his child. My name is known to God; my name is written in his hand.
I am baptized, I stand united with my God through my baptism. I therefore always speak joyfully in hardship, sadness, fear and need. I am baptized, that’s a joy for me. The joy lasts eternally.
I am baptized, and when I die, how can the cool grave hurt me? I know my fatherland and legacy that I will have with God in Heaven. After death, Heaven’s garment of joy and celebration is prepared for me.
I am baptized in your name, God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. I am counted as one of your seeds, to a people that you blessed. O! What fortune for me! Lord, let me be worthy of it!

Because all people were being baptized by the baptist whose name was John, Jesus Christ also came to be baptized by him.
He prayed according to his custom, so that Heaven indeed opened up. He was given God’s Spirit, which flew down as a dove.
John saw the Holy Ghost come down upon the one who is called Jesus, in physical form, and remained on him, who loves us as children.
And a voice from the throne of heaven spoke: This is my beloved son with whom I am well pleased. This testimony gave John himself.

Hand-colored; hand-lettered; printed form. The main text within a rectangular frame is in the center of the document. It is flanked by two inward-facing angels. The one on the left is holding a lyre and a wreath. The one on the right is holding a lyre and a bird. The verses within frames are in the four corners. In the upper center is an opened bible showing the passage of Matthew 28. In the lower center are two birds perched on a tree. The entire document is framed by a decorative border. Only the date and pastor’s name are hand-lettered. The rest of the infilled text was printed by Heins, while the standard text was printed by Dreisbach.
