Notes:
The Tasker Street Homes Project was one of the earliest public housing projects (1937) of Philadelphia’s Housing Authority. It consisted of 1000 units in 125 high-density buildings and a community center. The community occupied 40 acres to the southwest of 30th & Tasker Streets. This photograph was taken in 1958, 18 years after the first residents moved in. Although its purpose had been to provide better housing for low-income citizens, the community slowly declined economically, and it was demolished in 2004, and replaced by low-density public housing, renamed Grays Ferry Estates.
