Tracht in allen dei \ nen sachen das \ sie ein gut ende machen \ so wird dir der treue \ got helffen aus der letzee \ noth

Uebe dich mit al \ lem fleis das du gebest \ gott dan preß du \ habst wenig oder viel so \ triffst du das rethe Ziel

Von dem deine \ gib den armen so wird si\ ch got dein erbarmen \ und in Schmertzen angst \ u pein dir ein sichrer an \ cker seyn

Wan du diese \ Ziel getroffen so steht \ dir der Himmel offen \ hast erworben eine beut’ \ und die große Seeligkeit

Yetz und laß dir \ wohl gefallen wann du \ mußt in Schmertzen wallen \ du tragst doch zuletzt da \ von den verheisnen gnade \ lohn

Ziehe nun so \ hin im Seegen \ so wirst du dich niederleg= \ en wo die wahre ruh \ bereit in der stillen ewig \ keit

Translation:

[Def.] [All] your doings and deeds shall be counseled in God, so continue until the judgment destroys your best work.

If you are not yet completely separated from the self-chosen peace, so will your heart never be at rest even in your best deeds.

[Def.] [Cross] pain, fear and suffering have to prepare you for it, if you endure in this, you will find the house of peace.

The works of your hands and fingers and your own strength and power you must not consider, so you will be brought to the right.

Your own volition, your own opinion, you have to deny in you completely, so that God with work and deed can show you his counsel.

[Def.] [Strange?] ways, even if they shine like gold, you must let them be, if you want to be with God.

Great and mighty is the Lord, give him alone the glory in all you do and have, so you will find rest and peace.

If you have not yet started and have gone out of yourself, so will your best appearance bring you merely pain and injury.

Yes your volition and desire you must completely turn away from yourself to be freed, so will all quarrels disappear.

Neither complain nor claim any right to God’s heritage, otherwise your sins remain, even if you are a child of God.

If you love your things more than those God himself makes, so will what you treasure be consumed by fire in the judgment.

Make nothing out of your deeds, even if they were done in the best way, for death takes everything away that seems to have gain.

Not to want it, not to know it, therefore be filled with earnestness, so God will be all to you, that you can be in peace.

Although you have not yet met your goal after which you have been striding, yet for you the door of grace stands open, believe me.

Splendor and arrogance you must avoid, and separate from yourself, so God can show you what is rightly done before him.

If there does not flow from your heart sweet love in sorrow and pain, then you do not yet have a trace of God’s nature.
Do not judge the affairs of your neighbor, before you see to your own, otherwise you build on sand, remain unknown to yourself.

If you see your neighbor’s failings, do not tell others about it, if you consider his fault, you will lose God’s favor.

See to it that all your affairs come to a good end, then the faithful God will help you out in the final need.

Practice with diligence, that you give God the praise, if you have much or little, you will meet the right goal.

Of what you have, give to the poor, so God will have mercy on you, and in injury, fear and pain, be a sure anchor for you.

When you have met this goal, heaven stands open for you, you have obtained a prize, and great blessedness.

Henceforth let it be well-pleasing to you, when you must walk in pain you will at last carry away that promised reward of grace.

Come forth now in blessing, so you will lie down where true rest has been prepared, in the quiet eternity.

Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered. The verses in Fraktur are arranged within squares, in a grid that extends across the entire document six squares across and four squares down. The first letter of each verse is a large capital letter embellished with calligraphic flourishes and polychrome decoration. A potted, flowering vine separates the top two rows of squares from the lower two rows.
In German the verses are an acrostic of the alphabet.
