Joseph Rotrock was born in Pennsylvania in [blank] County in Mount bethel Township, in the year after the birth of Christ 1823, the 16 d[ay] March. Parents were: Johannes Rotrock and Sahra, a born Drumheller, a son was born into the world named Joseph, was brought to the holy baptism by Mister Mensin. Sponsors were: Philip Drumheller and his wife Hanna.

Notes:

Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered. The opening words extend in large Fraktur letters across the top of the document in an arched formation. The central text in Fraktur extends from the heading to the middle of the document, with blanks infilled in German script. A large six-pointed star within a compass work design is in the lower center, flanked by two large flowers. In the upper corners and center are flowering vines.
