Russian-born American musicologist Nicolas Slonimsky traveled to South America for the Fleisher Collection to collect manuscripts and instruments for the Federal Music Project at the Free Library. He wrote this piece as a humorous gift to the Collection and used the initials of curator Arthur Cohn, founder Edwin Fleisher, and head librarian Franklin H. Price as notes in the opening.
