Category: Bookplate (Bücherzeichen)

Notes:
Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered. The bookplate is divided into two unequal parts, with the upper portion filling about five sixths of the item. In the upper part is the name and date within a heart, which is flanked and topped by a profusion of leafy flowers. Additional text, in German script, is in the lower portion of the bookplate. The entire item is framed by a decorative border, with scallops at the top. The initials N. O. are written in the lower border.
A similar bookplate was made for Ephraim Detweiler in 1856 by the S.F. Artist (See FLP 441); this bookplate appears to be a copy of that one by a different hand.
