STAR \ IN THE EAST.

Hail the blest morn when the great Mediator, \ Down from the mansions of glory descends: \ Shepherds go worship the Babe in the manger \ Lo! for his guard, the bright angels assends.
Chorus.
Kindest and best of the sons of the morning, \ Down in our darkness and tend us thine aid: \ Star in the East the horizon adorning. \ Guide where our infant Redeemer was laid.

Cold in his cradle the dew drops are shining \ Low lies his head with the beasts of the stall \ Angels adore him in slumber reclining, \ Maker and Monarch and Savior and all \ Kindness and best of the sons of the mor&c.

Say shall we yield him in costly devotion \ Odours of Eden or offerings divine \ Gems from the mountains and pearls from the ocean \ Myrrh from the forest and gold from the mine \ Kindest and best of the sons of the morning &c.

Vainly we offer each angels oblation \ All these can never his favour secure \ Richer by far is the hearts adoration \ dearest to God are the prayers of the poor \ Kindest and best of the sons of the morn&c. \ James Leameasurer \ Philadelphia December 13th 1822
