Translation:

Great indeed is the God blessed mystery, God is revealed in the flesh, vindicated in the spirit, seen by the angels, preached to the the pagans, believed by the world, taken up in glory. 1 Timothy 3:16.

Noble master of all virtue, Jesus, teach my youth, this is what I yearn for. Oh, hear me, my Lord, this is my plea above all, teach me to act according to your pleasure, teach me in all things to fulfill your will.

Teach me to avoid all pleasures that will lead me away from you. Teach me to disdain the world because everything must pass away. Teach me to leave the paths of sensuousness gladly and willingly. Teach me in all things to control the desire of my flesh.

Teach me to know the Father and call him Abba from the heart, Teach and give the gifts of your spirit to refresh our Lord. Teach and open the understanding, give us wisdom and knowledge. Teach us faith, give us love; strengthen us through your spirit’s stirrings.

Teach us to be alert, teach us to pray, since the need here enters in. Teach us then with wings of faith to glide to the hills of the stars. Teach us to sigh, teach us to sing, let it echo through the clouds. Teach is to hope with yearning until we obtain help and comfort.

Teach is also to suffer patiently, stand by us on all sides. Teach us to stand in gentleness because the enemy reveals his rage. Teach and strengthen us in the truth of your word with strength and clarity. Teach and help us overcome world, flesh, devil, hell and sins.

Now, o master of all virtue, Jesus, teach and lead us youth. Lead us on all of your paths; adorn and embellish us with blessing. Let us grow in youth in piety and virtue, and render to you, Lord, constant praise, also there eternally laud you.

Consider well all things that you have to do on earth.

Honor every man according to the duties of the station if you want to gain love and praise.

Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered. The text in Fraktur and German script extends across the entire document. The first four words are prominently displayed, with the initial letters in decorated calligraphy. Above the text are leafy branches with a variety of flowers. The entire document is enclosed within a decorative border.
The eight-stanza hymn on the fraktur appears in the hymnals of both the Franconia and Lancaster Conference Mennonites.
