Notes:

Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered. The text in Fraktur within a frame is in the lower portion of the document. It is surrounded by four flowers. In the upper portion are four intertwined tulips. The entire document is framed by a decorative border. This bookplate is in the Mennonite tract Eine Beschreibung der Neuen Creatur (Doylestown, Pa.: J. Jung, 1838)   (PA GER Doylestown 1838 G716).

Several examples by this hand are attributed to the school of Jacob Brecht, a schoolmaster in Bucks and Northampton Counties; others refer to this small group as the work of the Haycock Township Artist.  One piece dated 1813 is signed by Brecht; the related works are both dated 1839 and include a combination bookplate and birth record made for Anna Baringer (see Amsler, p. 291), and one made for Aaron Landes (see FLP B-163).
