This bible belongs to me, Susanna Mosser. Written in the year of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the fifteenth day of January one thousand eight hundred and twenty six.

Think of your creator in your youth before the evil days come and the countenance becomes dark, then you will say, “I don’t like them.” God is a God of love, a friend of unity; he wants that man exercise himself in what causes joy and peace. With one intention

renounce the disagreeing, to act brotherly, in gentleness always. Whoever loves peace here, in truth devotes himself to his neighbor without displeasure, without the intention of pleasure, he has a share in heaven where peace and love dwell. God is and remains his.

Bless me with your love, bless all my deeds through your worthy spirit of blessing, that they may be well advised and that your name be praised. If it is yours and not my work, O grant courage and strength that I may go through right away, not look to favor and disfavor. I command my things to you, may everything be left to you. Do as it pleases you, O Lord, with them. If cross and suffering come to my house and it appears to be all over, let me follow your will which can still all concerns. If I must hear some mockery, if I am scorned here and there, don’t let my heart be drawn into it; if I am scorned by the world, what is more world as you will. After all, you, o God, are my shield. 1826.

Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered. The leaf is divided into five sections. In the center section is text in Fraktur aswell as decorative spirals and a bird. In the two sections next to it is text in German script. In the upper section are several trees with four birds. In the lower section is text in German script that is flanked by two tulips. The entire item is framed by a decorative border. This bookplate is in Biblia (Lancaster, Pa.: Johann Bär, 1819).
