This is a ca. 1935 image, taken by amateur Philadelphia photographer Claude Alexander, showing the Universalist Church of the Messiah, at Broad Street & Montgomery Avenue. A modest Sunoco gas station is in the foreground, at the corner. Next to the church, at Broad Street & Columbia Avenue (today, Cecil B. Moore Avenue) can be seen the dome and partial view of the bell tower of the Reform synagogue Keneseth Israel. Both the church and synagogue have since been demolished.
