Italian painter, draftsman, and printmaker; 

Known commonly as Il Grechetto;

From a series of prints entitled Large Studies of Heads in Oriental Headdress;

Artist's monogram appears at upper right, followed by the inscription: Castilone [sic]; etching may show a number of marks at lower left, perhaps caused by the abrading of a handwritten inscription; monograpm consisting of superimposed letters may appear at lower center in shadow;

Written on back of print, "from a suite of six prints;"

This print belongs to the series Large Studies of Heads in Oriental Headdress, dating to the late 1640s during the period when Castiglione was interested in the works by Rembrandt (1606-1669),  the well-known Dutch painter, draftsman, and printmaker.
