Lauded by President Obama for his “deep commitment to resolving conflict and advancing democracy,” former Democratic Senator George Mitchell was one of the main architects of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement for peace in Northern Ireland, and the main investigator for an eponymous report that laid out possible causes for the Arab-Israeli conflict and recommendations to end violence in the Middle East. Senate Majority Leader from 1989 to 1995, Mitchell later served as chairman of The Walt Disney Company, Chancellor of Queen’s University in Belfast, chairman of international law firm DLA Piper, and on the boards of a variety of other government, private, and corporate institutions. The Negotiator tells the story of his humble beginnings, rise to power, and influential career.
