Monte Irvin’s career in baseball stretched from the Negro National League to the Major League, from shortstop to scout to PR specialist in the commissioner’s office. The right-handed power hitter won two batting titles in the Negro National League; in 1946 he slugged three home runs to lead the Newark Eagles to victory over the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro World Series. In 1949 Irvin crossed the color line and was a key contributor to two Giants pennant-winners, batting .458 in the 1951 World Series where he stole home against the Yankees. His achievements earned his selection to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973. Interview followed by a book and photo signing-other memorabilia not permitted.
