The "King of Calypso," Harry Belafonte was the first musician to sell more than 1 million LPs, for his third album, Calypso, as well as the first African American man to win an Emmy, for his television special, Tonight with Harry Belafonte. He received the National Medal of the Arts, the Kennedy Center Honors, and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, among many honors. Known worldwide for his humanitarian activism as well as his musical achievements, Belafonte has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for more than 20 years.
