Named the world’s conscience by Time magazine, Jan Egeland is the former United Nations Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. During his 25-year career in human rights, Egeland participated in numerous peace processes, including the Oslo Accord and the Ottawa Treaty to ban landmines. He is famously known for calling much of the Western world “stingy” during the 2004 tsunami relief effort, causing a rapid increase in aid.
