Science in the Summer is returning to the Free Library of Philadelphia and we are excited about this year’s curriculum—The Science of Space. By bringing the Science of Space to elementary school children, we’re showing them at an early age that, through knowledge, education and hard work, these worlds are attainable—all while inspiring them to pursue the STEM skills that will prepare them for successful academic and professional lives as they get older. And it's also just plain FUN!

This year some of the Science in the Summer activities were previewed at the Science in the Park events held at Hunting Park and Clark Park in April. Children had the opportunity to play with two different types of rockets: straw rockets and alka seltzer rockets. As you can see from the pictures, they had a BLAST!

The Science in the Summer program will feature these rocket activities and many other fun space-themed learning experiences, including space exploration via virtual reality. The Free Library of Philadelphia is hosting Science in the Summer at 28 neighborhood libraries throughout the city. Online registration for Philadelphia opened earlier this week on Monday, May 14, so don't delay—register today!
