Our fall line up for Sundays on Stage is here, and it’s packed with old favorites and new acts. This season we will again host live, free performances on Saturdays in the Montgomery Auditorium in Parkway Central Library, and we will close the season with a return of The Nutcracker on Sunday, December 15.
Several familiar favorites are returning to the program, starting with Hip Hop Fundamentals’ blend of energetic breakdancing and music with the rich history of hip hop and cultural impact of Black youth. In October, TAHIRA will deliver a captivating, interactive storytelling program sure to delight families and young children. Performed with Chinese traditional dance and a variety of puppets, Hua Hua Zhang will bring to life a collection of enchanting short stories.
New to our stage, November kicks off with Michael and the Rockness Monsters performing a raucous rock and roll concert sure to get you up out of your seat. Los Bomberos de la Calle is a local must-see act! This ensemble brings a piece of Puerto Rican culture everywhere they perform, and this show will feature bomba, plena, and musica Navidena. Thembi Palmer’s engaging program is beloved for fostering a love of storytelling and nurturing creativity.
Finally, the season will end with a special Sunday performance of The Nutcracker by Pages to Pirouettes! We are delighted to invite this ensemble back to Montgomery Auditorium to bring the story of Marie and the Nutcracker Prince to life, followed by their traditional brief ballet lesson.
If you’re looking for even more free, fun activities, stay tuned for the announcement of a special pop-up performance by Keepers of the Culture at one of our neighborhood branches! This local storytelling group delights and educates audiences while celebrating and practicing the African and African-American oral tradition.
All programs are FREE! Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. and performances begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Montgomery Auditorium located on the Ground Floor of the Parkway Central Library. Children, teens, families, and adults are welcome!
