The Philadelphia Book Festival Kicks Off Today!

By Michelle S. RSS Mon, April 11, 2011

Today marks the start of National Library Week and the start of our fifth annual Philadelphia Book Festival! Tonight, we're welcoming musician Jay Ansill, acclaimed authors Dolen Perkins-Valdez and Lori Tharps, and famed A Prairie Home Companion raconteur, Garrison Keillor. And tomorrow, we'll be packed to the gills (to the stacks?) for our sold-out event with the very funny Tina Fey.

Also coming up this week: An Evening of Poetry with two-time U.S. Poet Laureate Kay Ryan and the much-anticipated showdown between Philly and Boston at the First Person Inter-City StorySlam. Tickets are available online (Kay Ryan TicketsStorySlam Tickets) or by phone at 1-800-595-4TIX (4849). If they haven't sold out in advance, we'll have tickets at the door as well.

Now in its fifth year, the Philadelphia Book Festival is the Free Library of Philadelphia's annual burst of books, music, and inspiration! Packed with programming for all ages, the Festival features talks by bestselling authors, poetry readings, musical performances, tours of the Library's special collections, programming for children and families, and a vibrant Festival Street Fair featuring a wide array of literary exhibitors. Check out the Festival Guide for a complete listing of events!

Was the Tina Fey event recorded for the podcast? I was there but went to grab a place in line and missed the end of the question & answer session.
