A few months ago we posted a blog about the Free Library’s stance on the issue of publishers, ebooks, and libraries. We’re continuing to urge all our customers who believe that libraries should be able to purchase and lend any ebook titles they’d like to reach out to those major publishers who currently don’t support this position. While two of the “Big Six” publishers (Random House and Harper Collins) do allow us to purchase ebooks, three of them do not (Simon & Schuster, Hachette, and MacMillan). The fourth—Penguin—doesn’t currently allow it but is in the midst of testing a pilot lending program at another library. Show your support today and reach out to these publishers and remind them that all libraries—and all readers—deserve access to great books!
