A Message from Free Library President and Director, Siobhan A. Reardon

We are deeply grateful to Mayor Nutter for increasing the Free Library’s budget, which will ensure that every neighborhood library will be open six days a week. Serving Philadelphians of all ages and backgrounds right in their home communities in deep and meaningful ways is at the core of the Free Library’s mission. This recognition of the critical service we provide in the community means so much to the library staff and to the citizens we work with every day. The Free Library plays a pivotal role in helping community members find employment, as it is one of the largest providers of free internet and Wi-Fi in the city; it provides a safe and educational environment for our children after school and in the summer; and it makes our broad range of resources--from world language materials to vital information for small business--available to everyone in the city.  I must also thank Deputy Mayor Mike DiBerardinis and the head of our Friends group, Amy Dougherty, for their unwavering support for increased hours. The Free Library of Opportunity is open and ready to serve the community.

Thank you, Mayor Nutter!

Seven days a week would be the ideal. I hope that remains in the vision of the Free Library of Philadelphia.

Tremendous news! As a library patron and friend of libraries, we're delighted to support this effort to provide equitable and vital library services and access 6 days a week to ALL Philadelphia citizens. A great day! A step closer, we'll now need to encourage and enlist our City Council representatives in support of the Mayor's budget. Library Advocacy Day - April 10th. Dear Siobhan, Congratulations on the restored hours. If it's possible, please have these screens available to be formatted into LARGE PRINT. This would be helpful to those of us in the visually impaired community. Many Thanks, Kitty Kelly. 8223 Ardleigh St., Phila., PA 19118-3413 PS Happy St.Patrick's Day!

Great news indeed! When does this start? I look forward to visiting my nearest Free Library branch, Fox Chase, on a Saturday some time soon!
