August 2014 Early Literacy Calendar

By Jennifer W. RSS Thu, July 31, 2014

The summer season is in full swing now and our newest Early Literacy calendar has plenty of fun activities to keep you and your young ones busy all summer long!

We are so close to reaching our goal of reading 30-Million-Minutes in our Summer Reading program! You can join in the fun either online or at your local neighborhood library.

When you're not reading or playing outside, August has some other fun holidays you can celebrate like having a delicious cool treat on National Ice Cream Sandwich Day on August 2nd, Wiggle Your Toes Day in the grass on August 6th, or even pet a dog on National Dog Day on August 26th.

This month's calendar and links, compiled by Free Library of Philadelphia's children's librarians, is once again full of great suggestions that parents and caregivers can engage in with their children to help nurture and develop the five necessary Early Literacy skills of Reading, Writing, Talking, Singing, and Playing.
