National Social Work Month

By Donald R. RSS Tue, March 24, 2015

It's National Social Work Month so what better time to acknowledge the fine work of the two social workers at the Free Library.

Since July of last year, Parkway Central has been conducting a pilot in partnership with the City of Philadelphia's Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS). Charles Pitts and Michael Rabb have been placed in the Library to deliver social service help and resources to the public, while also providing support and guidance to staff. Feedback about the pilot has been overwhelmingly positive. In a recent meeting with DBHIDS, it was agreed upon to continue the pilot through the end of the fiscal year. Understanding the importance of this work, we are also looking at ways to expand social service resources beyond the pilot and into the neighborhood libraries.

The National Association of Social Workers recognizes March as National Social Work Month, and though Charles and Michael bring expertise beyond our typical understanding of social work, the Library wants to take this opportunity to recognize them for their ongoing efforts and all the good they’ve done for the community in and around the Library. They bring a level of professionalism, caring, and expertise for which we are very thankful.

Could you please send me contact information for Mr. Rabb, and Mr. Pitt? I am hoping to be in touch regarding Temple's internship connection! Thank you!
