When you think of spelling bees, you probably think back to those elementary school glory days (or, in my case, to an embarrassing misspelling of ‘macaroni’ that nearly ruined fourth grade for me), but what if we told you that you could be part of a spelling bee for grown-ups while you eat and drink with friends?
It’s true!
On Wednesday, October 3, the Free Library’s young professionals group, the Raven Society, is pleased to partner with Johnny Brenda’s for The Birds & The Bee: A Raven Society Spelling Bee! Featuring emcee Icon Ebony Fierce, the event will kick off at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. at 1201 Frankford Avenue.
Tickets are $10 per person, and all proceeds benefit the Free Library of Philadelphia. Attend as a spectator or sign up with a team and compete in a quizzo-style spell-off. It’s going to be part show, part quiz, and all fun! Creative team names and outfits are encouraged.
The Raven Society introduces young professionals 21 and up to the critical work of Philadelphia’s public library system. Through social, educational, and networking events, Ravens build an engaged community of supporters around the Free Library’s mission to advance literacy, guide learning, and inspire curiosity. Ravens have behind-the-scenes access to gems from the Free Library’s expansive special collections, insider knowledge about strategic plans for the Library’s future, and much more.
All signed up and ready to go? While you wait for the big night to get here, we thought you might enjoy a book or movie about spelling bees to get your mind right – there are more than you might think! Grab one today, and we’ll see you on October 3!
