Everyone. Everywhere.
The Summer of Wonder is all around you. It is happening at libraries and bus stops, at city parks and in camps, on PlayStreets, and in your very own homes. Everywhere you look this summer, you’ll find Philly folks engaged in mind and body, learning through play. What does playful learning mean to you and your family?
It might be joining Science in the Summer to see what it’s like to Be a Biologist, or stopping in for a STEM program at your local library. It could be channeling your inner poet or drawing comics to communicate what you can’t say aloud. Maybe it’s a raucous game of Scrabble Slam at your local recreation center, or a game you invent with friends at the pool.
Whether you are just learning to read or rereading your favorites, participating at your neighborhood library or earning badges online, when you join the Summer of Wonder, you are part of something greater than yourself.
In-Person
Kick off your Summer of Wonder with the most famous goats in Philly! Join the Free Library and the Philly Goat Project at Awbury Farm on June 12 for live music, dancing, family fun, storytime, summer prizes, and of course, the goats! (The rain date for this event is June 19.)
Check the Free Library events calendar for other Summer of Wonder Kick Off events and on-going summer programs at neighborhood libraries throughout the city. Don’t miss out on some of your favorite summer activities, from face painting and music-making, to magic, puppet shows, and snakes!
Hybrid or Virtual
Looking for ways to participate online? We invite folks of all ages and camp groups to join the Summer Reading Challenge and Virtual Activity Adventure! New virtual activity adventures will encourage you to explore the outdoors, experiment with backyard science, and get to know the fascinating animal kingdom. Earn points for our city when you log your reading minutes, activity adventures, and programs you attend at your local library. Camps and groups can compete on our virtual Leaderboard to see who can earn the most points! Sign up online or try the free app for iOS and Android devices. Be sure to visit our Youth Services Hub for fresh activities, resources, and more all summer long.
The Summer of Wonder takes place virtually from June 1–August 31, and in-person from June 6–August 12, 2022. Stay tuned for more summer programming highlights to come.
