There are over 50 Free Library locations in neighborhoods across Philly, and everyone has a favorite, along with fond memories of Author Events; One Book, One Philadelphia; special exhibitions; and incredible initiatives and programs that serve the community.
Whether you are an entrepreneur taking advantage of the Business Resource and Innovation Center (BRIC), a regular Culinary Literacy Center participant, or a family that benefits from the Literacy Enrichment Afterschool Program (LEAP), Literacy in Early Learning Spaces, or Read by 4th, there is so much to love about the Free Library.
There are as many ways to show your love as there are reasons to give. These include:
- Foundation Membership Options
- Gifts of Cash: Donate to the Free Library Fund via credit card or check.
- Gifts of Stock or Wire Transfer
- Planned Giving: Planned gifts help grow the Library's endowment and can be designated to support a specific neighborhood library or program you value. Read how Susan G. Smith's philanthropy will help ensure Free Library services for generations.
- Corporate Giving: The Free Library Foundation is an Educational Improvement Organization (EIO). Corporations that donate are eligible to receive 75% of their contribution in tax credit.
- Tribute Gifts
- In-Kind Gifts: These include material goods and non-cash contributions, which are in line with the Library's mission, collections, and programming. For example, Darryl Rode, CEO and Founder of Keystone Pictures donated kitchen items to the Culinary Literacy Center to teach healthy cooking while building community and promoting civic dialogue.
- Matching Gifts: Please contact your company's human resources department for more information.
December is the Month of Giving
The Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation supports the vital work of Philadelphia’s public library system, sustaining the Free Library’s mission to advance literacy, guide learning, and inspire curiosity throughout Philly. While the City of Philadelphia provides for the Library’s facilities and infrastructure, critical programs are made possible through the Foundation and private gifts from people like you.
This holiday season, help us in our collective mission by becoming a Foundation member or making a donation to the Free Library Fund. Gifts to the Free Library Fund are allocated to the areas of most urgent need each year and touch every one of the Free Library’s locations across the city. In this way, the Free Library Fund ensures that Philadelphians of all ages, stages, and abilities have access to life-changing programming and resources in their community.
All gifts to the Free Library Fund are fully tax deductible. Please donate now online, or go to the Support Us tab on our website for more information. If you have questions or wish to donate over the phone, feel free to reach out to us at giving@freelibrary.org or 215-567-7710. Thank you for your generosity!

The Free Library is one of the most important educational and cultural institutions in Philadelphia. While the City of Philadelphia provides public funds for the operations of the Free Library, it is through the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation and the generosity of private funding from individuals, foundations, and corporations that the Free Library is able to offer many of the Library’s incredible programs and activities that advance literacy, guide learning, inspire curiosity throughout the region, and help deliver on the promise of an equitable future for all of Philadelphia’s children, families, and communities.
