Calculating Pi(e)
Culinary Literacy Center at Parkway Central Library
A common refrain is that baking is a science, but let's give credit where credit is due—baking is a true STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) undertaking. Perfected through repeated scientific experiments, baking marries arithmetic, chemistry, geometry, architecture, and biology with gastronomy and the culinary arts. This Pi Day, let's strengthen our baking skills and knowledge through these disciplines!
Join us in the Culinary Literacy Center's teaching kitchen to learn how to make, roll, pan, and flute, pastry dough—then fill, frill, and bake the perfect pie. Participants will also leave with fully-baked fruit pies they constructed themselves! During the baking period, we will taste seasonal varieties and explore the STEAMier side of America's favorite dessert.
