In The Path of Islam: Exhibition and Project Ending July 31, 2022
Rare Book Department at Parkway Central Library
In the Path of Islam is a place to share the stories of Islam and celebrate Philadelphia's Muslim communities, with special emphasis on the voices of indigenous African-American Muslims, born and raised in the city.
The exhibitions are one part of the larger project, curated by Philadelphians from around the city. It includes one-of-a-kind art and artifacts from one thousand years of Muslim culture alongside treasures from the homes of Philadelphia Muslims. The largest exhibit is on the Third Floor of the Parkway Central Library, with more than fifty objects on view. It is complemented by traveling exhibits, showing off the Free Library’s largest Qur’an, a collection of African-American Muslim dolls designed here in Philadelphia, and ancient and modern Arabic calligraphy. The three traveling exhibits will be on view at neighborhood libraries and masajid for one month at a time from April through July.
