Penn’s Village Presents: The Lady from Shanghai (1947)
Philadelphia City Institute
Join Penn’s Village and the Free Library of Philadelphia for Penn’s Village Presents, a free film series at the Philadelphia City Institute Library. Discussion will follow each screening. On the second Mondays of the month (with the exception of October which will be held on the first Monday), we’ll explore the work of Orson Welles through a six-screening retrospective.
The film The Lady from Shanghai (1947) will be screening today. Orson Welles directs and stars with Rita Hayworth and Everett Sloane. Disagreements with the studio (Columbia this time) resulted in more savagery in the cutting room with Welles left out in the cold. Nevertheless this example of film noir rates in the 10-best with many critics.
Registration is not required and these films are free and open to the public.
