Art Department at Parkway Central Library
Step into the intriguing world of forgotten art and untold stories with a talk by local historian Paul Vartan Sookiasian.
Discover the incredible life of Manuel Azadigian (1901-1924), a brilliant artist whose journey spanned continents- from his birthplace of Malatya in Ottoman Turkey, to the tenements of North Philadelphia, on to the vibrant bohemian circles of Jazz Age Paris, and finally to the Long Island estate of one of the day's most noted actresses. Azadigian was on the cusp of fame when his life was tragically cut short, after which his works mysteriously disappeared and his name slipped into obscurity. Now, thanks to a renewed interest in his story, some of Azadgiain's lost masterpieces have resurfaced at auctions right here in Philadelphia, with his talent once again being recognized and celebrated.
Mark the 100th anniversary of his death with us as we uncover the life, art, and mystery of Manuel Azadigian.
