Ethics in the Pursuit of Profits
Education Philosophy and Religion Department at Parkway Central Library
In recent years, a number of high-profile business ethics scandals have received a great deal of media attention:
- Volkswagen used "defeat devices" to cheat emissions testing.
- Wells Fargo defrauded thousands of customers by opening accounts in their names without their knowledge.
These kinds of corporate actions contribute to a general distrust of the business world among the public, but they are also ethically problematic.
Professor Brian Berkey, from the Wharton School of Business, will discuss the ethical obligations of corporations and the limits on the acceptable pursuit of profit in a contemporary capitalist society.
